Debt Lover
Put a credit card in her hand
And she starts to lick her lips
Watch her eyes begin to bulge
As she flicks her fingertips
For she knows that she is itching
To connect with ATMs
And cash registers, for merchandise
She calls her precious gems
Claims she likes the most expensive
Also claims she has good taste
But she’s really just a show-off
Who knows only how to waste
Money that the card allows her
She just spends it like it’s water
Has to keep up with the Joneses
Lives as though she is in show biz
Now she knows that she’s a spender
Who dislikes paying her lender
And the smallest minimum
Is always too big a sum
As the interest is mushrooming
Mrs. Carefree is pretending
That she has things under control
But she’s one uneasy soul
For the creditors are hounding
At her door they are a-pounding
Garnishment her pay has shrunken
And her spirits now are sunken
She is warned she has to face up
That her credit life is messed up
Still refusing to be spendthrift
For her standards will be messed with
She decides before it’s too late
That she has to consolidate
All her bills and so she seeks help
But, in debt, she’s deeply enveloped
Though she’s in financial anguish
She refuses to relinquish
Some of her most prized possessions
She still hadn’t learned a lesson
Finally, her world collapses
Finds she’s no match for the Joneses
And by force the poor fool loses
All, and she still makes excuses.
