Purple Play
Regal, royal, rich in purple tones,
Color of ages, sages, textiles, all renowned,
And flashing floodlights in a discotheque;
Diamonds reflecting purple; sparks aglow.
Pick out that purple Easter jellybean
That little Cheryl likes to chew on when
She goes to see Barney the Dinosaur.
Succulent plums, resplendent as they hang
From boughs of emerald greenery,
Trapping the scent of their perfumery.
Tossed salads
Made with purple cabbage leaves,
And bits of purple onions, for a zing;
Ballooning eggplants; flowering irises;
Munching on seasonal grapes,
Plump and tender;
Purple juices turning into wine
Intoxicating and romantic:
These are the things that always make me sing!
Color of elixirs and healing cough syrups,
Lilacs, and lavender: Wash me over!
Purr, please, so I may caress you,
Piece of the rainbow
And the color spectrum.
Sun, setting in a purple sky:
I’m touched by feelings
Raging purple in perplexity,
Perpendicular to pleasure,
That make a soldier earn
A Purple Heart.
